Welcome to the new Cartagena City Guide!

My name is Dave and I spent the first half of 2009 living and traveling in Colombia.  It was my first trip to the country, and the warm reception from the Colombian people made me feel right at home.

While living in Medellin, I began a blog called Medellin Living which chronicled my experiences trying to teach English, learn Spanish, and enjoy the rich culture on offer in the city and country.

I had the pleasure of visiting Cartagena after the country’s biggest Carnaval, held in nearby Barranquilla.  Cartagena is romance in city form.  Narrow cobbled streets.  Old wooden balconies.  Horse-drawn carts.  Beautiful beaches. A pulsing nightlife.

In my own personal effort to help Colombians emerge from decades of bad press due to internal conflict, I am establishing this new guide to one of the Caribbean’s top destinations.
